Description
The entry for the document title is required by the PDF/X standard. Choose the "Properties" entry from the file menu. Then you can enter the title in the title field.
The preflight message "Document title is missing" indicates that the title of the document is missing in the Document Info. The title of a document is a fundamental property used for the identification and categorization of PDFs.
The title should always be filled out, especially if the document is used in professional, archived, or standardized formats such as PDF/A or PDF/X.
Common Causes
- GMG Color Server: This problem partially occurs when using an old version of GMG Color Server.
- Use of incompatible export settings
- The title of the document was not added when creating the PDF.
- During the PDF creation (e.g., in Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Word, or another tool), the title in the metadata fields was not filled in.
- Automated workflows or scripts removed the title from the metadata or did not set it correctly.
- If the document was not exported from a complete workflow that requires adding metadata.
Suggested Solutions
Avoidance
- GMG Color Server: Check whether the GMG Color Server is up to date and perform an update if necessary. If the issue is not resolved by this, contact the manufacturer's support team.
- Incompatible Settings: Use Adobe PDF presets in square brackets "[Preset Name]". These presets were included by the manufacturer with the version you are using. Select one of these and make any adjustments based on it.
Workaround
- This message is specific to PDF/X-1a and PDF/X-3 standards. Try using PDF/X-4 instead to see if it works.
Post-Correction
In Adobe Acrobat, you can edit the document title afterward. Open the print file in Acrobat (full version). Choose File > Document Properties (CMD + D). Select the "Description" tab and enter a title under "Title", then save.
